17th PAL Awards Night Looming…

The judging season is now over and the committee want to say a big well done to you all for all your hard work entertaining countless audiences over the recent months.

As well as pleasing them you have also pleased us as it is apparent that the standard of pantomimes in Leicestershire has been higher than ever.

It does mean that we are now just a week away from the prestigious Awards Evening. Just a reminder that it takes place at Winstanley Community College, Braunstone, Leicester on 24th march 2018 starting at 7.30pm (doors open 7pm) – entry just £2 a ticket. As well as the awards and participation certificates, you will also see excerpts from a small number of this year’s entrants.

We won’t have a bar this year, although the committee will have tea/coffee/squash on tap, so do feel free to bring your own refreshments along to the event. There will also be a raffle on the night for you to buy tickets for.

We look forward to seeing you and declaring the eventual winners of The Blue Balloon Trophy and David Pollard Youth Shield for 2018.

Pantomime Alliance New Season Begins

The first meeting of the Pantomime Alliance Committee (2017/18) season took place on Wednesday 6th September at Dock 218 (near The Space Centre, Leicester). Even now, it is apparent it is going to be a busy season. More details of that in a moment. What did come up is that we will definitely need MORE JUDGES this year to cover the number of entrants we have and the dates their pantomimes fall.

The reason for this is that we have a number of groups in Leicester and Leicestershire who enter year after year but, as there is no other organisation that does what The Pantomime Alliance does locally, we are increasingly having to go out of Leicestershire to visit groups who are keen to take part (Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire). Judges don’t have to attend every meeting but should be able to attend the pantomimes and then feedback their scores/findings in a timely fashion so we can determine the winners of the categories we judge.

Meetings are held approximately once a month, the next one being 10th October. If you think you would be interested in judges do contact us or turn up on that night.

It is very enjoyable and rewarding and you get to see what other pantomimes groups, locally, are doing (you may even get ideas for your own group).

Here’s to a successful 2017/18 pantomime season.

16th PAL Awards Event Soon Upon Us

The Pantomime Alliance of Leicestershire’s 16th Awards night is less than a month away. Groups from all around Leicester, Leicestershire and the neighbouring counties have auditioned, rehearsed and performed extremely well.

Judges from PAL have been along to the pantomimes and judged them all on the categories we have on our criteria. It is fair to say it has not been an easy season to judge in the slightest.

There is just one more to be judged this coming weekend, then a meeting a couple of days after will bring all the results together to calculate who the successful groups are in each award.

Just a quick reminder that we need you to contact us with any unsung heroes you want us to recognise and any nominations for a charity close to your groups heart which we will give a discretionary donation to at this year’s event.

Talking of the event. It is at Winstanley Community College, Braunstone, as always on Saturday 25th March. It starts at 7.30pm with doors open from 7pm. Last year’s format worked really well so we have planned this year to do much the same and we have around 5 groups performing small excerpts from their production at the event.

Come along, enjoy the night for just £2 a ticket and hopefully walk away with participation certificates, category awards and maybe even the Blue Balloon Trohpy for Pantomime of The Year 2017…

See you there.

16th Salute To Pantomime

pal1503_079The 16th PAL season has begun!!!

We are sending out entry letters and forms to you all so do get them back to us with your entry fee as soon as possible. A max of 4 judges will come along to your performance and look at potential entrants for all of the award categories. Once all of the pantomimes have been judges, all of the scores will be collated and the winners identified.

More details to come, but this year’s awards evening will be on Saturday 25th March 2017 at Winstanley Community College, Braunstone, Leicester.

The PAL 15th Salute to Pantomime

You’ve seen the Oscars and the Baftas. It was time to witness the spectacular that is The PALs! On April 2nd, 2016,  the best dressed dames and pantomime horses descended upon Winstanley College in Braunstone to see who won what during this year. Amateur dramatic groups all over Leicestershire speculated on who had snatched the best Villain award, who claimed the coveted Best Animal category and hoped that they at least get a nomination if nothing else. When the night was over only one group could claim the Blue Balloon trophy for Best Overall pantomime for this year,  As always it’s not about the winning, it’s about the taking part.

The winners turned out to be as follows:-
